WIFT: What I Feel Today

I couldn't find, a friend around
To love me like, they do right now.

It doesn't help the hunger pains
and a thirst I'd have to drown first to ever satiate

Something's missing
And I don't know how to fix it
something's missing
And I don't know what it is
At all

When autumn comes, it doesnt ask.
It just walks in, where it left you last.
And you never know, when it starts
Until there's fog inside the glass around your summer heart:

I can't be sure that this state of mind, is not of my own design
I wish there was an over the counter test, for loneliness.

To clearer skies,
SFM

What to Give Your Creative Girlfriend This Christmas ♥

We don't want to over sell these babies but we also don't want your girlfriends to miss out on such a find!

If your girlfriend is that smart, creative, no-fuss, artsy individual, there's a huge chance that she might like this...and might love you for doing justice to her tastes.

Also, why don't you get one for yourself?

Just saying ;)

Because!

Because really, at the end of the day,
After all the shit that happens, after all the anger, frustration
And all the plans (you will never almost do) to get them back,
If awesome can't be pulled off, you just want to be okay~

In the empty moments of the day, this is how I feel~

Cause Cats Love Fashion Too ♥

Beautiful things captured on beautiful photos can rule my world anytime...and some of those beautiful photos can be seen over at SeaOfShoes.com by Jane Aldridge. It is one of my favorite blogs to read and follow.

A couple of weeks ago, I read about a contest on Jane Aldridge's blog. You are to choose to draw an outfit from any Spring 2011 collection. As I read it, I decided I had to join. I mean, I HAD to because I just saw a really cool outfit that I wanted to draw with a chic cat wearing it...in London! See her at the left part of this page?

That top with the scarf print is  the brainchild of Marco Zanini, Creative Director for Rochas  Women's RTW Spring 2011 Collection. I love Marco Zanini's designs. Wait, scratch that. I love Marco Zanini! I love his designs. I must be honest though that I haven't heard about him before late this year and I'm in the stage of finding out more about this genius. I'm not really a fashion junkie so that explains a lot on why I don't know a lot about him (so my resolution is: get a lot of help from Vogue.com & Fashionologie! Harhar).

Anyhooo, as for the other entries, I am enjoying browsing through all of them. All the illustrations are so lovely :) I kinda passed my submission late so I'm okay not seeing mine posted on the photo pool. ALL of the entries can be found HERE

Paper Fanboys!

I was able to catch FANBOYS on Star Movies the other night after a long day at work. Today, this came up on my news feed:

The Force is strong with this one. An artist named Eric Power has created a unique version of the "Star Wars" trilogy using paper animation. To paraphrase a certain green Jedi master, "Awesome it is!" -Yahoo Movies

There's no other cooler (geekier) way to end this *insert superlatives* tiring work week! Look at the screen shots:
Oh yeahhh look at the cool paper wings on those X-Wings! Dayuuuum

Google is such a cool alarm clock of sorts when it comes to birthdays!
Today, it's John Lennon's 70th!
Wouldn't it be awesome if I lived in the 60s and got to watch a live Beatles concert?

A Yabadabadoo Time!

This is a belated post. I never really was a great birthday-greeter.
Most of the time, I'd forget it was a dear friend's birthday.

Anyhoo, I found this the other day on Google:

Coolio. It has been 50 years! Imagine how old Fred is now if he really aged.

Liar No. 1 & Liar No. 2

I am an emotional being.
At an honest to goodness heart warming/touching scene in a movie, I cry easily.

To start off the week, my good friends and I watched Orz Boyz on a Monday night. It’s one of the films shown at the first ever Taiwan Film Festival. At first I thought it was going to be a light movie but lo and behold, I wept.

Take the Cake!

Have you seen Google’s landing page today?
Look! It’s a Google cake!
Apparently, it’s Google’s birthday today.
Happy 12th Birthday, Google!

I realize that there has always been cake in my life. Every birthday, no misses, there is cake! When I was 12 years old, the lady who took care of us (when my parents were away) baked me a chocolate cake and rainbow cupcakes. The cake topper was a Sailor Venus plastic action figure. I still remember the house smelling so sweet. I even helped spread the icing on and then licked it off the spatula. Oh how I miss home baked goodies!

Anyway, before I linger deep into my love for cake and anything sweet, look what the Google photo reminded me of:
This is an illustration I made for a contest at Design By Humans’ Facebook fan page. The goal was to make a word that is what it is. Does it look good enough to eat? Y/N? :O

Oh, I almost forgot, today is the birthday of one of my best friends in the whole wide world, Jarra! I miss her so much! I hope she gets some good rest and her favorite cake!

Champagne & cakes,

Cine Europa 2010

There are so many good films on the list!
I am eyeing “El Abuelo" (The Grandfather), “Frygtelig Lykkelig" (Terribly Happy), “Mio Fratello E Figlio Unico" (My Brother is an Only Child) and “L’Heure Zero" (Toward Zero).
Last Friday, we watched Forbidden Fruit. More of my reaction & views of that on a later date. For the meanwhile, below is the schedule in hopes that you will find time to line up and watch the films! :)

Daily Random: What I Word Today

Clearly, this is not a scanned drawing and clearly I don't have green hair
Although I wish I had scanned it and had green hair,
I cannot do anything about any of my wishes

I brought my things with me today in a backpack
I didn't realize how much I miss carrying my stuff in it until today
I wish my backpack suited all the dresses I have
I certainly cannot wear it everyday although I wish I could

I love apples but I love pears more
I had Italian sausage & mozarella for lunch
Although I wish had three cheese, I can't, I didn't

I wish my legs were as skinny
I wish I had brigher eyes
I wish my drawing was better
I wish for a lot of things

Wishin' & hopin' for better posts,
SFM

Mildly Mad Alices & Tea-Tainted Photos

It’s been raining so hard lately and it brings a sinister cold air
I long for one sunny afternoon to have tea with a friend or two
A tea party with tiny cakes and cookies, a party for all my mad friends!

I recently rediscovered these photos that I took one perfect afternoon a few months ago. Aren’t they quaint?

A Daily Random: Dinos in the Cinema!

It is evident that I love dinosaurs from my previous posts
I have yet to decide if I love them more dead or alive.

Anyway, remember that post I had about the Silent Film Fest? I know I said that I have no pictures to show you on how the inside looked like...well, that is not exactly the case. With the not-so-high-reso spec of my phone, look at these:

I don’t know how exactly I endured painting Ben 10 characters on kids by myself on a supposed long weekend and got out of that party alive.

Kid Commotion & The Wine Cellars

My friend and I watched two silent films over the weekend for free at the 4th International Silent Film Festival held at Shangri-La Plaza.
The films are over 75 years old! I don’t have non-blurry photos to show you how the inside of the cinema looked like but to paint a picture, in front of the movie screen is a live band that plays music as the movie shows. It is quite a scene to watch!

Word Art Shirts!

This is by far, my favorite! 10 Ataris Games in Pacman form!
About 7 years ago, I started making shirts as gifts for friends who celebrated their birthdays. A few birthdays passed and numerous comments about the shirts I posted on Multiply, people started asking me to have shirts customized for them and their friends. I loved that I got to exercise my right brain and get paid to boot! Look at some of my favorites that I made below:

Mnla Dsgn Wk 2010 Cbao X Endr

If you’re a fine arts graduate|student, an art enthusiast, or a music lover and haven’t been to or heard of Cubao X, then you’ve been missing one artsy fartsy scene!

The most common questions I get from friends who haven’t been to Cubao X are:
What is Cubao Expo?
Where is Cubao Expo?
What to do in Cubao Expo?

To which questions, I answer:
It’s a quaint spot somewhere in the metro where you can find art, antiques, random handmade items, comics, toys, food!, booze, fanciful furniture, and weird-shaped stores.

Drawings Weekly: The Old Woman Who Lived In A Bespoke Shoe

Click on me to view a larger version
I was searching Google for handmade shoes the other day and saw this intricate white bespoke shoe. It is to be worn by the bride on her wedding day. Although in my eyes it looked like an elf's, it was still very beautiful. And then for some strange reason,  out of nowhere really, I thought of the old woman who lived in a shoe. Wouldn't it be so grand to live in such a luxurious piece of handmade shoe? Then I remembered that the old woman who lived in a shoe was very much poor and had too many kids and had little food to feed them. I wanted to create my very own illustration of the woman who lived in a shoe but I wanted to make her happy and stay away from the negative story that the child's poem narrates to us. In my illustration, she has 6 kids, a husband, a dog and a cat, a telescope and a very cool inflatable pool that ll the neighbors envy. Isn't it wonderful?

My Heart Upon My Sleeve, Iago

I was browsing through my old stuff and found a thick pocket book covered in dust. It was Shakespeare's Othello. Though much of the story I have already forgotten, I still remember this one character, a man of villainous veins, a felon written so poetically that I wish I could've crossed paths with him in my past life: Iago

I had to look for these lines on the internet as I remember this is the phrase (?) where the title of this entry originated from. Haven't you heard this line in so many pop songs and didn't know it was Shakespeare who coined it?

IAGO:
It is as sure as you are Roderigo,
Were I the Moor, I would not be Iago:
In following him, I follow but myself;
Heaven is my judge, not I for love and duty,
But seeming so, for my peculiar end:
For when my outward action doth demonstrate
The native act and figure of my heart
In compliment extern, 'tis not long after
But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve
For daws to peck at: I am not what I am.

In Transit : Braver & Bolder Becomes Me

Movies are like cheat sheets you can get a lot of pick up lines from...or if you're like me, you not only get quotes from them, you live through these movies.

I am inclined to liking films that speak of finding yourself, getting lost through the journey, taking chances - those sorts of cliches. (Cliche? Y/n?)

I suppose, the movies that I fancy speak a lot about things that I want to do in life. At 22, I am at crossroads. I am a lost soul: I am looking for my place in the industry I've decided to work in, I'm in the midst of deciding which career path to take and I am burnt out, high and dry!
I am in dire need of a holiday. I long to get lost, twilight and do things that I love.

While I save up for a vacation, here's a showcase of some of my favorite lines and quotes from some of my most loved movies that I turned into postcards last year:

STAND UP AND DELIVER! ☮

I say, IT'S ABOUT TIME YOUNG GUNS IN THE PHILIPPINES LOOK FORWARD TO SOMETHING WHERE THEIR WORKS CAN BE RECOGNIZED. This is brilliant. It is a sign of things to come for the Design industry in our country.

I know some of my professors and some design elitists are frowning upon me for supporting award-giving blahs like this. I remember a professor telling me that it is not the awards you receive that define your success or something and that living for awards is pathetic to put it bluntly. It's just that, for me, it feels great to be acknowledged and awards can  push artists and designers to never let their design guards down. (What did I just say there? lol) It's something to keep everyone on their toes, it is something to get inspiration from...just like what Martha Stewart always says, it's a good thing.

Below, I've copy pasted some information about the PGDA in hopes that many artists and designers and colleagues will join in the FIRST EVER Philippines Graphic Design Awards! ☮

The Philippine Graphic Design Awards or PGDA is the first and only local awards program in the Philippines that celebrates Filipino graphic designers in a showcase of the most creative and innovative artwork produced within the last year.

This is the first time Filipino graphic designers will go head-to-head in a showcase of the most noteworthy graphic design artwork produced within the last year. If you need more convincing, here are more reasons you should join this year.
If you're a Filipino graphic designer, and proud of it.

If you want to be taken more seriously for your craft. (And demand more for it without the need for a lengthy explanation.)

If you've got a feeling your artwork is among the best that is out there.

If you want to find out for sure and how you fare among your peers.

If you know there are no walls to being creative and you’ve always wanted to break each one that boxed you in.

PGDA endeavors to elevate the stature and perception of the Philippine graphic design industry by establishing a point of reference for Philippine graphic design among its regional and international counterparts. It strives to create opportunities and to inspire Filipino graphic designers to continually produce unique, cutting-edge artwork that exude distinctively Filipino qualities.

It's time, creative peeps!
If you feel insignificant to the industry, make yourself known and be recognized!
STAND UP AND DELIVER!
For celebrating local graphic design, cheers!

Weekend Wackness : Capsule Dinos!

As you may have noticed (or not), one of the items in my previous illustration is of a swimming dinosaur inside a shot glass.
Wouldn't it be a better place if we had miniature dinosaurs that fit shot glasses?

What I would do to make these babies real even just for an hour~

Forget about those cute micro pigs, adorable teacup puppies and squish-worthy toy dogs.
Say hello to SHOT GLASS DINOS!

A Thumbelina Triceratops!

A Tom Thumb T-Rex (Did you just read Tom as Thom?)

And even a Tinker Velociraptor! (Saw what I did there? Hahaha)

Oh hey, some bad photoshoppping on my end! Haha

Since dinosaurs are like...uhmmm... extinct, my brothers and I bought something close to that: We bought foam dinosaurs in capsules!

All you have to do with the capsules is soak them in hot water and watch them grow (or force them to "grow" by poking the capsule with a toothpick...or a ball point pen if you wish).

Aside from the possible brain damage caused by the ridiculous smell of the melting plastic capsules, the foam dinosaurs turned out okay.

The Capsule Animals Set includes 12 capsules in 4 colors. The set sells for about $1.
WHAT A STEAL, I say, what a steal!

The green one is a Triceratops, the yellow one a Diplodocus, the blue one an Oviraptor, the red one a Utahraptor

One of my favorites is the herbivore dino, the Diplodocus.
She's that yellow one in the center.
It looks so happy and dinosaur-y. Y/y?
I'm naming him Yellow Foam Happy Diplodocus Dinosaur or YFHDD for short.

So anyway, while you absorb the concept of real live shot glass dinos, I'm off to naming all these foam dinos and maybe change YFHDD's name. It may be too long. He might not remember it when I call for him.

Very Cherry Jelly Belly Beans,
SFM

"Seems to be, that being in the middle is starting to get me in trouble
Try to run away, but they have a talent for making trouble seem enjoyable
Oh the more I try to separate, the better it feels to get right in the way
Should I douse the spark or fan the flames
Or merely think of clever things to say?
